Fiberfab Sherpa SH 75-1
Kit
manufactured by body works Kuhnle, Dietzingen under
Licence from Fiberfab, California, U.S.A. using
the frame and engine of the Citroen 2CV "Duck" or Dyane.
Additional parts where used, like the headlights from a VW Passat I and
the grille from a Fiat
850T minibus! The bucket seats came from Koenig
In contrast to the archetype Citroen Mehari, whose body is made of ABS
plastic, the Sherpa is made of fiberglass plastic based on a tubular
support frame! This had the advantage of a more robust body, which
doesn’t easy tear and burn like the ABS plastic of the Meharis (which
prevented the homologation of the Citroen Mehari in Germany back in the
seventies).
The kit was presumably offered from 1975 to 1982 and about 250 where made.
There are not much left until now. I could find out the existence of
approx. 20 cars in Germany (Information from forums, sale-offers, auctions,
museums, internet and personal contacts.). And a few might have survived in the
Netherlands and Belgium!

I
found my car in 70% restored condition in the backyard of a truck workshop!
Some parts where missing or torn apart, but nevertheless I started my
first restauration
The search for a car like that began with a movie from french comedian
Luis de Funes from 1979 Le
gendarme et les extra terrestres which
featured a Citroen Mehari used from the incapable gendarms in St. Tropez.
(see
pics)
Since then I kept this car in my mind, and many years
later I found the "german brother " of the
Mehari - the Fiberfab Sherpa, whithout even knowing, back then,
what a rare gem I found.
I took the following winter finding missing and finishing the aborted
restauration . Passing the technical approval and registration
was just a 15 minute thing!
Take a look on the pictures when we picked up the
Fiberfab Sherpa
It’s a very reliable car and it needs only few maintenance. It has fair
offroad abilities, and offers a unbeatable convertible feeling.
